Organic Farm Vang Vieng promotes the use of natural materials & traditional methods for growing its crops & raising its animals, without using chemicals or artificial fertilizers, which are harmful to both our health & the environment. Our high-quality natural food is enjoyed by visitors of our Farm’s organic food restaurant & various other restaurants in Laos. Leading by example, we aim to show people around the world that organic farming methods can be profitable as well as healthy. Organic Farm Vang Vieng (OFVV) was founded by Mr. Thanongsi Sorangkoun (“Mr. T.”) in 1996 with the goal of introducing organic farming methods in an area where chemicals & deforestation were ruining the land. He wanted to lead by example, showing that organic methods could be profitable as well as healthy. Saffron Coffee was born in 2006 to establish a viable alternative cash crop for hill tribe villagers in northern Laos, who in the early 2000s were unable to rely on the now outlawed opium harvest for much of their income and livelihood. Saffron Coffee’s flagship cafe – it’s Espresso, Brew Bar and Roastery on the Mekong River in Luang Prabang – opened in 2016. The cafe provides a window through which travelers to can share and contribute to the Saffron story everytime they eat or drink at Saffron. We also offer “Cherry tp Cup” coffee tour takes you from the beginning of the journey where you can eat a coffee cherry straight off the tree, have a go at pulping the beans and enjoy the beautiful aroma of roasted coffee as you watch us roast some coffee. Lao Forest Teas is a social enterprise which assists poor Lao farm families in the northern mountains of Laos to overcome poverty and improve their livelihoods by the production and sale of quality natural teas grown in the forest from seedlings of ancient tea trees. We are a wholesaler of these quality teas purchasing from small tea companies assisting tea farmers or we directly buy tea too from villagers. Story of Lao Tea and Natural Products Lao Tea and Natural Products is the result and outcome of rural development programs in Phong Saly Province starting from 2000. Puer tea varietal was one viable upland and highland crop with market demand from China and with good growing conditions and chosen by the villagers. The purpose of the company and related social enterprise is to source four Puer tea varieties from mountain villages to enable the villagers to have sustainable markets with fair trade prices and organic and natural certifications. Part of the proceeds from tea or natural product sales will fund community village improvements such as schools, student dormitories, village medic supplies and scholarships for ethnic villagers. The efforts of the company are in coordination with local Lao Government authorities to ensure understanding and shared objectives to assist poor highland villages with sustainable social and economic development in distant areas while protecting the natural environment.
